Midday Trend

Published on September 10, 2026 at 12:35 PM

Wall Street is facing broad, persistent selling at midday, with the major averages extending their losses into a fourth consecutive session.

High government bond yields and geopolitical friction are forcing a risk-off rotation. Investors are repositioning defensively after a twin package of a hot 5.4% PPI reading and an unexpected drop in weekly jobless claims to 206,000. This data strongly signals that the Federal Reserve will lean hawkish at its policy meeting next week.

📉 Midday Market Index Snapshot

⚠️ 1. Nowhere to Hide Across Sectors

  • Broad Distribution: Equity selling is market wide. High-multiple techs, consumer discretionary, and industrials are pacing the downside as the 10-year Treasury yield climbs.
  • Energy Exception: Energy remains the lone structural hideout. The sector is catching a strong bid as Brent crude oil jumps toward $105 a barrel, exacerbated by the intensifying military friction in the Middle East.

🛢 2. EIA Reports a Less-Than-Expected Oil Draw

  • The Official Numbers: The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) just released its delayed Weekly Petroleum Status Report at 12:00 P.M. EDT. U.S. commercial crude oil inventories fell by 391,000 barrels for the week ending September 4.
  • The Interpretation: This draw was much shallower than the market consensus, which anticipated a decline of 1.4 million barrels. However, crude prices are entirely brushing off the softer domestic demand signal. The focus remains heavily locked onto the massive global supply deficit. The EIA confirmed that global fuel stockpiles have plunged by 400 million barrels so far this year due to the regional war.

🪙 Bitcoin Holding Ground Against Macro Headwinds

  • Yield Resistance: Despite the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) and the 10-year Treasury yield surging on the hot wholesale inflation print, Bitcoin is showing remarkable core stability near $77,000.
  • The Floor: Institutional and corporate treasury hoarding has stepped in to defend this localized level, keeping digital assets from participating in the wider equity market distribution.

📈 Strive Inc. (ASST) Defies Early Pre-Market Losses

  • Intraday Rebound: After experiencing a soft pre-market indication under $26.26 due to general risk-off sentiment, Strive Inc. (NASDAQ: ASST) has reversed direction mid-morning to trade up 1.46% at $27.08.
  • The Treasury Premium: Buying pressure returned following the realization that the firm’s underlying asset values remain heavily anchored. Strive recently expanded its digital corporate treasury by purchasing an additional 1,375 BTC, bringing its total balance sheet up to 24,531 BTC worth roughly $1.91 billion.
