The tech sector is leading a broad market sell-off today, with the Nasdaq Composite dropping 1.91% to 26,203.12 and the S&P 500 falling 1.00% to 7,666.53 by early afternoon.

Investors are aggressively shifting capital out of hyper-growth technology and artificial intelligence firms and rotating into cash-generating defensive blue chips, materials, and energy.

While the Dow Jones Industrial Average has outperformed the tech-heavy indices, it is still down 0.46% (around 241 points) as rising energy stocks help keep its losses in check.

📉 The Tech & AI Rotation

  • Semiconductor Slump: The PHLX Semiconductor Index slid for its eighth consecutive session, falling 2.1%. The industry is pacing toward its worst weekly decline since July due to mounting anxieties over credit risks and AI-linked corporate debt burdens.
  • Major Decliners: CoreWeave shares plunged 11% today following reports of heavy insider selling, while Palo Alto Networks dropped 7.5% to lead mega-cap tech decliners.

🛢️ Energy and Crypto Divergence

  • Crude Oil Surges: As broader equities wobble, oil prices are climbing rapidly on intensified geopolitical friction. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude surged 2% past $100 per barrel, and Brent crude jumped 3% above $109 per barrel, providing a lift to heavy energy names like Chevron.
  • Bitcoin Premium Slip: After demonstrating strong pre-market stability, Bitcoin (BTC) tracking vehicles are experiencing a localized midday dip in sympathy with tech, with the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust down 1.13% to $35.96.
  • Strive, Inc. (ASST): After starting the pre-market session in the green, ASST has succumbed to the aggressive tech-sector liquidation. Shares of the Bitcoin treasury firm have reversed down 6.78%, trading at $23.91 as the broader market prices in the dilution of yesterday's upsized $630 million SATS preferred stock offering.
